Structure
League play at 21
Lacrosse will be divided at the following levels for both boys
and girls:
• Middle School (grades 6 - 8)
• High School (grades 9 - 12)
Team v. Free Agents
Though team registration is the predominant means of joining our leagues,
we strongly encourage anyone with an interest in playing lacrosse to do so
as a “free agent” if they cannot find a team on which to play.
21 Lacrosse
will assign you to either an established team with roster space, or a team
of “free agents”.
How are we different
We anticipate weekly clinics where the staff of 21
Lacrosse will offer instruction on fundamentals, game strategies
and many other nuances of the game. In the Fal of 2006 we intend to offer
a series of clinics based on skill and grade level.
Each team MUST have a coach. The coach or an assistant must be at each game.
There will be no “player coaches” allowed on any youth /high school
teams. This rule will be strictly enforced.
The staff of 21
Lacrosse is passionate about this game. We respect the game and
how it is played. Our standards will be set high. Anyone or any team not sharing
in this vision will not be allowed to participate in our leagues.
BOYS
INDOOR lacrosse RULES
1. Each team will be made up of 5 field players and a goalie.
2. All field players will be required to use sticks that do not
exceed 42” in length.
3. All players need to be properly equipped, including a legal
mouthpiece, in order to participate.
4. Games will last 20-24 minutes per half. Each team will be granted
8 minutes to warm-up and a 4 minute halftime. If the score is
within 2 goals during the final 2 minutes the clock will start
and stop on the referee’s whistle.
5. Each team will be granted one (1) 60 second timeout per game.
6. There will be no overtime contests unless it is a play-off
game; whereupon, a face-off will precede each 3 minute sudden
death overtime period.
7. There will be NO cross checking.
8. There will be NO boarding (all boarding fouls will be charged
as a 2 minute penalty to the offending player).
9. There will be 2 face-offs per game (at the beginning of each
half).
10. All players, other than the players facing-off, will be in
the restraining boxes, for each face-off.
11. When the referee blows his whistle to begin play, all players
are released … they may enter the midfield area to compete
for possession of the face-off.
12. After each goal the team that was scored on may proceed to
clear the ball immediately (there will be no face-off after goals).
13. This shall continue until a team is trailing by 5 goals, whereupon,
the trailing team will be awarded the ball at midfield after every
goal (including their own) until the deficit is less than 5 goals.
14. All substitutions will be “on the fly”. Make sure
that the player being substituted is in close proximity of the
team bench, before his substitute enters the field of play.
15. There are no off-sides … all team members may be on
the same side of the midfield line at any time.
16. If a ball goes out-of-bounds (into bench area, behind netting,
etc.) the team that last touched it loses possession. If the out-of-bounds
ball is a shot, the team closest to its exit point will be awarded
the ball. If the referee cannot determine who last touched the
ball, it will be awarded on an alternating possession basis, which
is determined by a pre-game coin toss.
17. There will be a “backcourt” violation …
Once the possessing team enters their offensive side of the field,
they may not return to their defensive zone with the ball. If
they do, they will lose possession (if a ball is checked into
the “backcourt area, a violation does not occur unless the
team that lost the ball touches the ball before the defending
team does so … also, a ball deflecting off of a defenders
stick into the “backcourt” area is a free ball, and
may be retrieved by either team).
18. The team that goes “backcourt” is subject to a
“quick whistle”; therefore, if they do not relinquish
the ball immediately, they may be called for “delay of game”,
resulting in a fast break against the violating team.
19. The defensive team has 10 seconds to clear the ball to their
offensive zone. Failure to do so will result in a turnover which
will be put in play at midfield.
20. All penalties result in a fast break for the team that has
been fouled.
21. The player that committed the foul must leave the field of
play. Goalies may remain on the field if they commit a foul (unless
the referee determines the foul to be excessive). If a goalie
is removed, that team has 2 minutes to replace him.
22. If a player receives the equivalent of 4 minutes in penalties
(4 personal fouls, 8 technical fouls, or a combination thereof),
they will be ejected from the game.
23. During any session, if a player is ejected a second time,
he must sit out the next game.
24. If a player is ejected 3 times in a session, he must sit the
greater of 5 successive games, or the remainder of that particular
session (this penalty may carry over to the next season.)
25. Excessive ejections could result in a “lifetime”
ban from “21 Lacrosse”.
26. Fighting is considered to be a major team / league violation,
and will result in one and only one warning (warning will be at
the discretion of the Commissioner). Any subsequent incidents
can result in an expulsion from the league.
Roster Rules:
1. Each team can roster a maximum of 15 players.
2. A team may have 2 coaches in the bench area.
3. Players and coaches only may be in the bench area.
4. All rosters must be submitted before the first game.
5. After the first game, no substitutes will be allowed.
6. If a team does use a substitute, they will forfeit that game,
and the player whose uniform was used by the substitute will be
removed from the roster for the remainder of the session.
7. The cost per player per session will be $125.00.
8. The cost for a team will be $1,500.00 (15 player maximum) if
they use a team sign up (one check for the entire team).
Forfeits:
1. A forfeit will be recorded if a team does not have a minimum
of 5 players, including a goalie, by game time (8 minutes past
the hour).
2. The opposition may allow the potential forfeiting team to use
a rostered league player from another 21 Box Lacrosse team to
compete. If they do so, it will be considered an official game.
3. A forfeit will occur if a team plays with a non-rostered player
(see exception above, #2), without disclosing this change.
4. If a team allows a non-registered player to play, this will
be considered a major team violation and will be addressed by
the league director.
